Curriculum Statement of Intent

Art across the AddMore Federation allows children the freedom to develop their imagination and creativity, whilst developing the skills and understanding required to develop as artists. All our pupils are required to make connections to their broader learning and the wider curriculum. We ensure that Art and Design is embedded in our whole school curriculum and that opportunities for enhancing learning by using art are always taken and in a way that connects with our areas of learning. We nurture children’s confidence in creating art, so art lessons can be a genuine place for self-exploration and freedom of expression.

Our Art curriculum develops creativity, engages and inspires children and equips them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. The curriculum has been designed to incorporate the appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to explore and investigate, create and evaluate artwork, as set out in the National Curriculum, and so will enable the children to reach and exceed their potential. Our children will be taught Art and Design in a way that ensures progression of skills and follows a sequence that revisits and builds on previous learning. Our children will value their work and always have high expectations in the process of their work, as well as the outcome.

Art across the AddMore Federation provides breadth and scope for exploring art this includes opportunities to create and appreciate a variety of two and three-dimensional media which includes music, dance, digital art aspects of drama, craft activities as well as those areas traditionally thought as art such as drawing and painting.  It is concerned with the development of visual perception and visual literacy to enable understanding and appreciation of art from a variety of cultures and periods through history. Through the medium of art, children can develop non-discriminatory attitudes and the appreciation of the work of others.

In line with our drive for inclusivity and celebration of equality and diversity, children regardless of race, gender or ability will have equal opportunity to develop their artistry.
